goosed in Goose Bay, the sequel
Jan. 4th, 2010 10:35 amGoose Bay is a community and large mil base on the Labrador coast and is typically the final stop before travel to the site. The plane landed (fourth time up and down this morning), the wheels stopped turning, the props were in full reverse...and the plane slid for about another hundred yards.
So, we are on weather delay pending fog clearance at the site. Problem is, as it has been explained to me, the wind and temp conditions are ideal for fog in the valley...and the weather reports are identical for the next 4 days. Fog is a problem since the runway is basically a flat spot on the gravel and instrument flying amounts to watching which way the sock is blowing. I may well end up turning around and coming home, within a two hour flight of my goal.
