work stuff: musing on new client contacts
Feb. 8th, 2008 09:56 amUsually we have more work than we know what to do with, but things since the New Year have been...soft. There's a bunch of stuff on the horizon, but if a large client decides to put something off for a year (maybe the Russians don't need french fries until 09) we're gonna keep hurting for work.
So, I've got a little list. Local biz for whom we have not worked before but seem to fit our client profile, at least to the limited extent that I understand such things. I'm faced with trying to pull off an upscale version of coldcalling. Better to do it on a Friday? Will it get forgotten over the weekend? Better to do it on a Monday? Mondays are so hairy in lots of offices, especially if they have weekend production without weekend support staff...
If you'd told me 5 years ago that I was going to be even in some small way responsible for business development, I would have laughed in your face and gone back to my process flowsheets.
hmmmm, Sleeman Brewery...
