Heya. Still here. Not much of import going on, though.

For any US History wonks in the audience, I watched Point of Order last night, a compilation of footage from the McCarthy - Army Hearings in 1954. A bit dry and scattershot but gripping in places. Hard to imagine that the clownish appearing junior senator from Wisconsin ever wielded significant power. Sad to think of the lives he destroyed.

In related media news, after perhaps 8 years of discontinuous effort I finished reading the 11th and final volume (the Age of Napoleon) of Will Durant's Story of Civilization earlier this week. Satisfying overall, and it pleases me greatly to have such a broad and consistent voice on which to hang subsequent studies, but oh BOY was it a slog at times. That said, not sure what one could change without damaging the continuity of the whole.

The major drama on the home front these days is that there's a girl next door to us who is Sprout's age, and they love to play together. Problem is that if for whatever reason they can't get together at any given day or time (due to family committments or whatever) it is a WORLDBREAKING drama. She tries to skip dinner if she hears playing noises outside, tries to duck out of activities she would otherwise be falling over herself to participate in (e.g. shopping with Mommy). Trying to figure out how to give her some perspective on friendships without squashing the fun...probably completely wasting my time, of course.

Oh, and in a few weeks I go to prison in California.
